"Footlight Parade" DVD winner!

The winner of the FREE "Footlight Parade" is The Vicar of VHS!!! Dear, Vicar, could you please email me your shipping address and I'll get the DVD right out to you.

Thanks to everyone who participated and look for a couple more give-aways in the future!

Kylie suggested that I show the winning entry so here it is from the Vicar:

"I love "Give me the good old days!" because I have always had a fascination for golden age Hollywood and the national culture in which it flourished, and your posts take me back to that time and beyond. I also have a thing for flappers and old-style bathing suits, so Sexy Time Saturdays is both the bee's knees and the cat's pajamas. :)"

Free DVD giveaway UPDATE

Just a little reminder to people that the DVD Give-away for 1933's "Footlight Parade" will close this Saturday (February 20th) at 12:00PM EST. If you know someone who might be interested in getting a free DVD of this film, just have 'em come on over and leave a comment about how they either love or hate El Brendel.

I will also be giving away 2 other DVD's in the near future through similar contests. The first will be a copy of "Gold Diggers of 1933" starring just about the entire cast of Warner Brothers studio in the early 30's (meaning HOT PRE-CODE!) and finally a DVD set from the TCM Archives titled "The Garbo Silents Collection". This 2 DVD set contains the films "The Temptress" (1926), "Flesh and the Devil" (1927), and "The Mysterious Lady" (1928). The discs also contain a bunch of goodies like the 9 minute surviving fragment from the lost 1928 feature "The Divine Woman", alternate endings for "Flesh and the Devil" and "The Temptress", and a documentary about the Young Film Composers Competition.

To enter into the competition for the "Footlight Parade" DVD, you can either leave a message about El on the original post here or just comment on this one. GOOD LUCK TO ALL!

While I work on my post for the Film Preservation blog-a-thon, I decided to give all my readers a chance to win a free DVD of the 1933 Warner Brothers feature "Footlight Parade". This film stars James Cagney, Joan Blondell, Ruby Keeler, Dick Powell, Guy Kibbee, Hugh Herbert, Frank McHugh, and............well do I really need to go on?? Maybe just to add the splendid choreography of Busby Berkeley!

Entries will be taken from now until Saturday, February 20th, 12:00PM EST, at which time all names will be put into a hat and the winner will be drawn. ANYONE can enter (and it's open to people world wide!!!) so tell all your friends to come over and visit and if you want to post this giveaway on your own blog or website, just go right ahead!!
