More of "Mr. Lemon of Orange"

During the shooting of “Mr. Lemon of Orange” it was decided to play up the gangster angle and pose El Brendel with Jack Rutherford in a series of promotional pictures that would portray some of the classic slang expressions of gangland. Some of these stills have snipes on the back to let the viewers know what they are portraying (which I have written underneath). As for the others, I have no clue what they are so if anyone can give me a helping hand on these I would appreciate it.

"A racket"

"Taken for a ride"

"On the hot seat"

could the 2nd to last be "Pig in the Poke"?

All very neat pictures!

That's what I thought too, but wasn't sure.

I also thought the 3rd one was "The Spring Has Sprung".

I also think the one with the alarm clock is about being "sprung."

The last one is probably "rum running."

Ahhhh, "Rum Running", didn't think about that one.

Since that looks like a bottle of wine as opposed to rum, it's just a guess. I'm surprised they didn't have him pointing to someone's boot for "bootleg"!

I love the straight man in these photos, btw.

Is that tape on the pig's mouth in #5? Maybe El is warning him, "Don't squeal".

Ian, in the original size pic there does not appear to be any tape.

Hey, another picture in this series is up on ebay (I am not affiliated with this seller, I'm just mentioning it). Looks like the explanation is on the back of the pic: "Up for a long stretch"! Ha!
