NO "Sunny Side Up" restoration on TCM

I just started watching "Sunny Side Up" on TCM and can say without reservation this is NOT the restoration by MoMA and Film Foundation. It does look better than the VHS copy that has been circulating for years, but this is probably an older master Fox pulled out of mothballs for this "premier". BOO!

How sad. :(

I wondered as I was watching it. There were some wobbly parts early on that looked like the tape had stretched or warped, and some audio issues as well.

If you're looking for a copy, mine should be good enough, although there is 2-3 seconds of pixelation just before that crazy Eskimo dance number. Just let me know.

I hate to defend TCM, but they may have been powerless here. MOMA is very particular about who uses and gets their film masters, and there may have been some politics here that we don't know about. I suspect there were. I've had run-ins before with them about such things. They like to think of themselves as a presentation-only archive, so the idea of broadcasting one their masters is something they wouldn't generally like. If TCM scheduled it, and then MOMA said no, then they probably were stuck doing what they did.

I hear ya, that doesn't mean I have to like it! Just after seeing the restoration at MoMA a month ago, this is pretty much a disappointment.
