Sexy time Saturday #3

This time we have a bunch of photos from Carreras Ltd. (of London) "Film Stars", second series of 54 cigarette cards. They date from 1938 and according to the back of the cards "KEEP THIS ATTRACTIVE SERIES OF REAL PHOTOS IN THE CARRERAS SLIP-IN ALBUM OBTAINABLE FROM ALL TOBACCONISTS (Price One Penny)". I have more to follow at a later date.

El Brendel returns to Cinefest!!!!

HOOOOO-RAAAAAY!!! The news has been announced on their Facebook page, that El's "The Last Trail" has been added to the schedule for this years Cinefest film festival next month in Syracuse, New York! I wrote all about this movie after seeing a print of it last October and I am excited to be able to see it again with an audience of more than 3! Oh, yeah......... I guess George O'Brien and Claire Trevor are in it, too, for those people who care about such things!!!

If you don't know about Cinefest, you can check it out here and read a review of a person's 2002 visit here. And, if you attend and see me there, say HELLO would ya??

And, for your viewing pleasure, here are a few more stills that I had left over from that October blog:

Warren William - to start the week

Warren William has always been one of my favorite actors from the early pre-code era that I love so much. His suave, tough mannered style was always backed by impeccably tailored clothing and whether he played a street tough, a kind-hearted sucker, or a scoundrel, he did it better than anyone during the early 30's.

He made some fantastic movies at Warner Brothers including (but certainly not limited to) "The Mouthpiece", "Three On A Match", and "Gold Diggers of 1933" and starting in 1939, starred in the "Lone Wolf" detective series for Columbia.

No matter what film he appeared in, his addition to the movie usually makes it worth seeing if just for his performance alone. And if you get Turner Classic Movies, check out their schedule as they usually play one or two of his movies each month.

More pictures from "The Golden Calf"

Right here is the blog I published last September about the lost 1930 El Brendel feature "The Golden Calf". At that time I had about a dozen-or-so pictures in the entry itself, so while I work on more writings about El (coming soon, I swear!), I'll throw out some more photos from the film that I have in my collection.

Lux Interior 1946-2009

Although this has NOTHING to do with El Brendel or film at all, I would just like to extend a big THANKS to Lux Interior, lead singer of The Cramps who passed away on February 4th. The Cramps were a huge influence on me in my mid-teens and I have never forgotten Lux and Ivy as two of the many people who turned me on to not only their music but so much of the garage punk and rock 'n' roll that I continue to love today.

El "plays" piano?

I guess "trying" or "attempting" is out of the question here! With snipes on the back:

DOING THE WRAP AROUND
El Brendel, Fox comedy star, has a little difficulty while practicing on the player piano.

YUMPIN' YIMMINY CHRISTMAS
El Brendel, Fox comedy star, has a day off between pictures, after finishing "Just Imagine," and decides to find out why one of the notes in his piano is a bit flat. He found out. Now the whole piano is flat.
